Our video follows the breakdown if a relationship from the break up itself to the after effects of that. There is juxtaposition throughout the video, with one side following the storyline and the other following the actual band performing the song.
The band performs in a very natural style so to give the audience an experience of seeing the band live and possibly persuade them to buy gig tickets. The lead singer uses direct mode of address a lot to connect with the audience - getting the mood of the song across.
In the storyline we see a couple breaking up, with shots of arguments riddled throughout the first verse. We show how each person is affected by the break up, with both showing feelings of regret and frustration. There are shots of each of them thinking about the argument they had and thinking back on memories they had together, showing how they’re coping without one and other.
As the video gets
closer to the end, we add in the issue of suicide – connotating that the
girl feels like her life is no longer worth living without her partner. This is misdirection,
as the girl never takes the drugs, but is in fact just putting them back in the
bottle, but the shot angle makes it look like she's taking them. Meanwhile the guy has realised something is wrong
when she’s not answering his calls and runs to her house and breaks down the
door to find her calling him, to which he smiles. We wanted to leave an
ambiguous ending so the audience can decide for themselves what happens with
the couple.
